The Bangladesh Project
On the 15th May 2000 Scancem International entered into an Energy Services Agreement for the construction, operation and management of a 9 MW gas-fired, captive power plant for a new Scancem clinker grinding facility in the vicinity of Dhaka, Bangladesh. The power plant entered operation in 2001 and provides the sole source of energy for the clinker process.
Scancem is an IPG customer. IPG initiated this project, introduced Rolls-Royce Power Ventures as the power plant developer/operator and was involved in the project negotiations. Scancem, headquartered in Oslo, was recently acquired by Heidelberger Zement of Germany. As a result of this acquisition, Heidelberger Zement is now the third largest manufacturer of cement world-wide.
